Sulphur is an important nutrient for normal growth of plants. It is taken up from the soil by the plant in sulphate form. In the soil sulphur is present as organic sulphur compounds, sulphides, elemental sulphur, and sulphate. Plants cannot absorb organic or elemental sulphur. For plants to be able to utilize sulphur from the soil it must be in the sulphate form. Organic sulphur and elemental sulphur are converted to the sulphate form in the soil. Sul-Sol-B is produced from Thiobacillus thiooxidans, an autotrophic and acidophilic bacterium which is beneficial to plants. This organism oxidizes sulphur and produces organic acids such as sulphuric acid and mallic acid which act on fixed sulphur, mobilize it and makes it available to the plants.
